A record number of runners, aged four to 70, stepped out for a good cause on Saturday for the second fun run this year organised by Cool Runnings, a specialized running store.

Some 550 competitors donned trainers for the MassKara Fun Run themed 'Bringing Color to Lives' and featuring distances of three, five, ten and 21K. Races started and finished outside the store's premises at the East Block.

Although dubbed a 'fun run', some runners took the event very seriously, especially 22 year-old Silaynon Jason Agravante, who is in training for the Milo National Marathon in Manila in December. He recorded a personal best in the 21K open with a time of 1 hour 8 minutes.

"I had hoped for 1 hour 7 minutes, but I was very pleased with my time," he said.

Winner of the women's 21K open was well-known local runner Jennylyn Nobleza.

The oldest competitor was 70 year-old, Romeo Reyes, also from Silay. He ran in the 10K.

"I've been running for more than 60 years," said the retired agriculture teacher, "and I'll continue for as long as I can."

The youngest runner was four year-old Johann Benedicto, who competed in the children's event.
